More Information
Alex Mandilaras graduated with a BSc in Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business in 1996. Following completion of an MA degree in Financial and Business Economics at the University of Essex in 1998, he embarked on a PhD with a full scholarship at the University of Surrey. He received his PhD in 2001 and, in the same year, the awarding institution appointed him as a lecturer in economics
Research interests
His research agenda focuses on international and macro-finance issues. In specific, he works on the causes and implications of currency crises, as well as the way they spread across national markets (spillovers). In relation to the causes of crises, an important part of his research concentrates on the role of fiscal policy decisions, including public debt management. With regard to the implications of crises, he is mainly interested in the potential effects on patterns of reserve accumulation. Aspects of his empirical work give attention to emerging markets in Latin America and south-east Asia.
